Employees Physical Activity affects Health Care Costs
New Online Calculator Estimates Financial Cost of Physical Inactivity

A new online tool will calculate the financial costs of physically inactive employees. Active Living Leadership and Fifty-Plus Lifelong Fitness, with the support of more than 20 partner organizations, introduces the Physical Inactivity Cost Calculator, available for free at http://www.activelivingleadership.org.

An estimated 64 percent of U.S. adults aged 20 years and older are either overweight or obese. In 2000, health care costs associated with obesity alone were estimated at $117 billion.

"Hopefully, business owners will take the time to research the effects employee inactivity has on their own company's health care costs, as well this Nation's health care costs," commented Ren Rice, owner of several health club chains.
